We're on

Remember the lightning adapter from Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL)  and the security chip that prevented cheap imitations from flooding the market? The chip that was at first thought to be uncrackable, then purported to be easier to crack than it looked has finally been cracked.

For those of you not in the know, Apple Inc (AAPL) was working on guidelines to allow third party manufacturers to make and sell the lightning adapter and other lightning accessories. The guidelines are to be announced on November 7 and Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) plans on keeping strict control over how many will be made available in the market at any given time and also, how they will be priced.

The chip was reported to be cracked earlier but images from Boy Genius Report show more than one cracked chip which means only one thing; unapproved third party lightning accessories galore. If you think about it, hundreds of cloned lightning accessories could be floating around in China right now and it’s only a matter of time before they make it to the US and Europe. While this is great news for people who don’t want to shell out $29 for a simple lightning adapter, it means that those who partnered with Apple Inc (AAPL) mighthave gotten the short end of the stick

While they may proudly say that they manufacture Apple Inc approved accessories, the fact is that they will not be able to compete with the cheaper models that will eventually flood the market. Anyone who is looking to pay a little extra will opt for buying directly from Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) while those who are looking for a bargain will look for the best deal they can get.
